Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is
a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Tragedy Strikes
On August 24th, 2012 the unthinkable happened. While we were asleep, two dogs broke into the sanctuary. They went through three layers of fencing to get in. Two of our tomcats, Lincoln and ODB, fought them off for as long as they could to give the other cats time to get into the loft and on top of the door -- out of harms way. Several cats fled to the outside cat run to get away. Unfortunately, the dogs followed. Five cats were trapped outside with the dogs and lost the battle. Five more cats went missing. Three have been found as of this update. (I REFUSE to add the other 2 to the "In Memory" tab until I know for sure!) Two were injured although not seriously. This is in their memory. We miss you babies. And all the others that have passed before and after.

Squirt
Squirt was my first love. From the first moment I saw her, I couldn't help but fall a little bit in love. Everyday after that I fell a little deeper. She weighed 4 lbs at her most. She was "feral." Everytime someone would come up to her cage, she would lunge. Finally, I just let her out. She had breathing problems. After 3 months, she got to where she would ride around on our shoulder. I decided to bring her home. I knew she didn't have long to live (she was 3, but had lived with problems her whole life.) Squirt taught us that it's not how many moments you have, but what you do with those moments. I miss you more and more everyday, baby.
