I've been in a funk lately. Somedays I feel like I'm not doing enough. Not helping enough. Not being enough. And then I lay down to sleep. And one of my rescues does something amazing.
I was expecting to be tore UP. The ACO was afraid of him. But I found a puppy. We're actually celebrating his first birthday today. When we got him home and got him bathed, he met my monsters. And He just wanted to play and play and play. When it came time for bed.... this happened.
So I challenge each of you to this. Find your local pound, rescue, shelters Facebook page. Go through the photos of available animals. Find the one that you can't get out of your mind. And make it your goal to get that animal a family before the new year. Share it. Talk about it with friend and family. Choose to "adopt it" for the holiday. Get it a new collar. A new bed. A new chew toy. Anything. And then...... challenge people you know to do the same thing I'm challenging you to do.
Before I end, let me share a story that has inspired me. Maybe it'll do the same for you <3
Story of the Starfish
“Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?,” he asks.
“Because the sun is up and the tide is going out and if I don’t throw them further in they will die.”
“But, old man, don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it! You can’t possibly save them all, you can’t even save one-tenth of them. In fact, even if you work all day, your efforts won’t make any difference at all.”
The old man listened calmly and then bent down to pick up another starfish and threw it into the sea. “It made a difference to that one.”
